Primary Purpose: Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Current RN License to practice in Texas
- Current CPR/BLS/AED certification
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong emergency assessment skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) for conveying information to parents, teachers, and administrators about student illness as needed
- Excellent documentation skills
- Experience:
- Experience in diabetic care, seizures, and asthma management
- One year of acute care or school nursing experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
- Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached).
- Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
- Serve as a health advocate for students.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Working Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress in a multitask environment with frequent interruptions. Exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
